One of the most charming characteristics of Dolenjska region is the preserved traditional rural architecture. The capital of Dolenjska – Novo mesto is famous for it`s archaeological heritage. Novo mesto was dubbed the town of situlae, because the majority of these bronze vessels in the world were found here. Another archaeological characteristic of Dolenjska are unique glass beads that were found here in access of couple of hundred thousand, unlike elsewhere in Europe where just a couple of hundred were found. The region`s trademark are the wine hills with their small but quaint vineyard cottages, which offer a special type of experience and accommodation found nowhere else in the world. One cannot visit Dolenjska without seeing its romantic river Krka valley with it`s many castles and churches. The experience of a living museum with stories and performances of history from the Middle Ages to the Baroque, in which the game and the hospitality of the lady of the castle are intertwined in a unique way.

Wine hills

During the tour you will be able to admire the wine hills and vineyards of Dolenjska. The hills are dotted with vineyard cottages that simply invite to taste an indigenous wine sort Cviček and other typical delicacies. At the last sight in the programme you will have the chance to taste the special feature of Dolenjska – Cviček wine and other culinary delicacies.

Novo mesto

On our tour we will make a stop in Novo mesto, whose old town is in the meander of river Krka. The city boasts rich archaeological finds and a well preserved old town. Since the archaeological finds from the Early Iron Age represent one of the most important pieces of cultural heritage in Europe, we will visit the Dolenjska Museum to see the archaeological exhibition. You will have free time for sightseeing or lunch.

Otočec Castle 

One of the most beautiful sights in the country, which is a must-see for all visitors. Otočec castle is the only castle on the water in Slovenia. It is situated on a picture-perfect island in the middle of beautiful river Krka. It dates back to at least 1252 and is today a home of a five-star luxury hotel and fabulous restaurant. It changed several architectural styles during the centuries, but it`s baroque style prevails. The castle surroundings are a wonderful choice for a stroll and relaxation.

Living museum in the Struga Castle – Svitar 

The unique living museum of Struga castle offers an experience of renaissance and baroque. The castle is not a classical museum but rather a presentation of life through characters that lived in Carniola in the past five hundred years and is filled with adventures of life between the castle walls. In the company of the lady of the castle you will get to know it`s story and history.
